EUGENE, Ore. - Kevin Costner, the star of some of the most highly acclaimed baseball movies of all time, is coming to Eugene with his band “Modern West” in an unprecedented fundraiser to help fund construction of the University of Oregon’s new baseball park for the Ducks' reinstated baseball program. Oregon will play its first baseball game in 27 years next February, and is currently in the midst of a $20 million fundraising drive to pay for the new park and the operation of the program. Costner will play two events at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, May 30 and May 31 at 7 p.m. in a show that features clips from many of his films, and music from his country rock band Modern West. Costner recently returned from sold out shows in Europe and performances in New Orleans and Las Vegas with his band. Tickets will be available through the Hult Center box office, all Hult Center ticket outlets and at www.hultcenter.org beginning Wednesday, May 7. Ticket prices are $25, $60 and $70 for a premier seat. The success of “Bull Durham”, “Field of Dreams” and “For the Love of the Game” has made Costner an icon in the baseball community. Sports Illustrated named “Bull Durham” as the greatest sports movie of all time. His love and passion for baseball is well documented and Costner expressed excitement to longtime friend George Horton on his move to Oregon to lead the Ducks’ reborn baseball program. In fact, Costner threw out the first pitch at Fullerton’s new ballpark while Horton watched from the field as a coach for the Titans. The actor also played in several exhibitions for Horton while he was at Fullerton. Eugene based SunRay productions is the promoter and production company for the show.
