May-06-2008 05:34Corban Trio Lands on All Conference Softball TeamSalem-News.com SPORTSCorban ended its season with its best record since 2005, as the Warriors amassed a win-loss record of 15-22 that included an 11-13 record in conference play.
SALEM, Ore. - Senior Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.), junior Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska), and freshman Jessie Jones (Gladstone, Ore.) were named to the 2008 All-Cascade Collegiate Conference team to go along with a Warrior duo that was named to the Gold Glove Team. After two straight seasons of one Warrior making the all-conference team, Corban placed three players on this season's team after the Warriors placed fourth in the conference thanks to an 11-13 win-loss record. Batey, a senior infielder, led the team in walks with 12 and putouts with 212. The 5-foot-9 Aloha High School graduate recorded three game-winning home runs, as Batey belted a walk-off two-run four-bagger against Southern Oregon on March 31st before coming back four days later and hitting a three-run game-winner against conference rival Concordia. One week later, Batey hit her fourth home run and third game-winner of the season in helping the Warriors earn a doubleheader split with The College of Idaho. Less than twenty-four hours later, Batey drove in three RBI in the finale against Eastern Oregon in helping Corban to a doubleheader sweep of the Mountaineers. Career-wise, Batey is the program's all-time leader in at-bats (455), runs scored (78), hits (128), runs batted in (71), doubles (24), total bases (199), and walks (41). The senior co-captain also ranks third in home runs (15), 10th in batting average (.281), and 10th in slugging percentage (.389). Sailors, a junior pitcher, was the ace of the Warriors' staff all season as she registered a win-loss record of 10-8 in 107.0 innings pitched. The 5-foot-8 right-hander earned back-to-back conference Pitcher of the Week honors, as Sailors went unbeaten in eight straight games that included six wins and two saves in helping Corban win 8-out-of-12 games during the heart of the conference schedule. Sailors led the Warriors in wins (10), appearances (20), games started (17), complete games (13), shut outs (3), innings pitched (107.0), strikeouts (148), and Earned Run Average (3.07) this season. At the conference level, Sailors ranked second in opposing batting average (.220), second in saves (2), third in total strikeouts (148), fifth in strikeouts looking (32), and fifth in wins (10). On the all-time Corban softball list, Sailors is the program's all-time leader in strikeouts with 360, while ranking second all-time in innings pitched (309.2), wins (15), appearances (51), and complete games (32) to go along with a career ERA of 5.07 which ranks fourth all-time in program history. This season, Sailors set the single season record in Corban softball history for K's with 148, which breaks her own school record that was set last season when she struck out 118 batters. Jones, a freshman infielder, was the Warriors' "table setter" all season from the lead off position and ended her first collegiate season as the team leader in at-bats (121), runs scored (28), hits (42), and stolen bases (16). The Gladstone High School graduate broke the school's single-season record for stolen bases, as Jones swiped 16 bases this season to rank second in the conference. In one season, Jones is second all-time in Warrior history in stolen bases and trails only current junior Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.). On the first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference Gold Glove Team, Jones and Gaylord were honored for their play in the field. Jones committed a mere four errors in 152 chances to lead the team with a .974 fielding percentage, while Gaylord platooned between the infield and outfield with a mere five errors in 77 total chances for a fielding percentage of .935. Corban ended its season with its best record since 2005, as the Warriors amassed a win-loss record of 15-22 that included an 11-13 record in conference play. First-year head coach Nathan Ohta will return 10 players from this season roster, as well as adding three players that sat out this season with injuries, to go along with the recruits that he brings in for next season.
