CORVALLIS - Jeff Macy has been named the Oregon State University Department of Athletics strength and conditioning coach, Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Wednesday.

Macy arrives at OSU from the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association, where he was the assistant strength coach since September of 2001.

“Opportunities like the one at Oregon State University don`t come along very often,“ Macy said. “The chance to work in the Pacific-10 Conference and the quality of life for my family in Corvallis make this a very attractive position.“

Macy was the strength and conditioning coach at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., for nearly four years prior to his appointment with the Bulls. He also is a strength and conditioning consultant.

“We`re very excited to have someone with Jeff`s expertise join our program,“ De Carolis said. “We conducted an exhaustive search for candidates for the position; we feel that Jeff is someone who can lead our program to the next level.“

Macy is a 1993 graduate of the University of Colorado with a degree in accounting. He was the USA Weightlifting National Champion in 1991 and 1993 and was an athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for four years. He participated in the Olympic Trials in 1992 and the World Championships in 1993.

“For the past five years Jeff has played a key role in the Chicago Bulls strength and conditioning program,“ Bulls` Executive Vice President for Basketball Operations John Paxson said. “His desire, dedication and knowledgeable insight to his job have been invaluable to all of the Bulls coaches and players during his time with the Bulls. Jeff will be missed by all of us in the Bulls organization and we wish him the best of luck in his new position with Oregon State.“

Macy is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a USA Weightlifting Senior Coach.

T.J. Ragan, who has been serving as the interim strength and conditioning coach, remains on the OSU staff. Ragan`s primary responsibility will be as the strength coach for the football program.
