MONMOUTH, Ore. - Three Western Oregon quarterbacks combined to throw for 249 yards and Dane Kelsey rushed for 103 yards as the Wolves defeated a group of former Wolves on Saturday night at McArthur Field, 39-12.

The spring game wrapped up WOU's four-week spring practice session.

Kelsey, a red-shirt freshman from Hudson's Bay High School (Vancouver, Wash.), took advantage of his playing opportunity to crack 100 yards on just six carries. He scored a touchdown and had another run of 55 yards to highlight WOU's running game. Western's top four running backs from a year ago did not suit up tonight because of various injuries.

Meanwhile, a trio of WOU quarterbacks hit on 17 of 23 passes for 249 yards and a pair of scores. Brady Lovell was 6-of-9 for 91 yards, AJ Robinson went 6-of-8 for 66 yards and Cory Bean was 5-of-6 for 92 yards. Lovell and Robinson will be sophomores next fall, while Bean red-shirted in 2007.

A starter will come out of that threesome, trying to replace Mark Thorson who threw for 102 yards tonight against his former teammates. Thorson connected on 15 of 28 passes, including one score.

"It was a fun way to end up the spring season," said head coach Arne Ferguson. "It is nice to play against someone other than ourselves, and to see all of these guys again. It is always a special night."

While the Alum team put up two scores and good fight, the most impressive former WOU players were on the sidelines: New York Giant Kevin Boss, Indianapolis Colt Jeff Charleston and longtime arena football league standout Chris Angel.

The former Wolves team scored right before the end of the first half on a Thorson to Jeremy Fortner pass, and then they found paydirt again early in the fourth quarter on a pass from Denny Bies to Jamil Wynn.

Wolves players will finish up studies for the spring term and get ready to report to practice in August. They will open the season on August 30 at PGE Park against Portland State.
