FORT WORTH, Texas - The Oregon State baseball team dropped its second game at the Fort Worth Regional, losing to No. 1 seed and host TCU, 13-1, Saturday night at Lupton Stadium.

The Beavers drew six walks against TCU starter Kyle Winkler, but produced just two hits off the freshman over eight innings. Winkler improved to 7-0 on the year.

The loss drops the Beavers to 36-18 on the year and will force Oregon State to try and advance from an elimination game on Sunday. The Beavers will play Texas A&M at 12 p.m. PT. The Aggies advanced after defeating Wright State in 11 innings early Saturday.

The winner of Sunday’s elimination game will go on to play TCU at 5:00 p.m. PT.

TCU (38-16) scored a combined six runs in the second through fifth innings, highlighted by the Horned Frogs’ first two on a home run off the bat of Chris Ellington. They added solo runs in the third and fourth innings before plating two more in the fifth. TCU’s first run in the fifth came on a Tyler Waldron wild pitch and the second when Matt Vern doubled down the left field line.

Oregon State broke up Winkler’s no hitter in the sixth. Joey Wong singled up the middle to start the inning, then stole second on a Ryan Ortiz strikeout. Wong was then driven in for OSU’s only run of the game when Jared Norris singled to center.

Waldron left in the fifth after going 4 1/3 innings. He surrendered nine hits and six runs – five earned – in his 16th appearance of the season, and 13th start. He struck out four and walked three to drop to 6-4 this season. The loss was his first in more than a month.

TCU added seven runs in the ninth for the final 13-1 score.

The loss marked just the second of the season for the Beavers or four runs or more.

Oregon State continues play at the Fort Worth Regional Sunday at 12:00 p.m. PT. The Beavers will play Texas A&M in an elimination game. Catch the game live on the Beaver Sports Network and Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com).

Oregon State Notes: Per NCAA postseason rules, despite the fact it is TCU’s home field, the Beavers served as the home team and occupied the third base dugout … The meeting was the first between the clubs since 1993 when they split two games.
