SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 12th-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped a 13-3 decision to Loyola Marymount Friday afternoon in the Beavers’ opening game of the San Diego State Tournament. Drew George and Daniel Robertson both had two hits to pace the Beavers, who finished with six overall and fell to 4-4 this season. Loyola Marymount, meanwhile, improved to 4-6 overall. Oregon State scored its only runs of the game in the fourth. Daniel Robertson drove in the first two runs with a single through the left side that scored Joey Wong and John Wallace. George followed up Robertson’s single with a double to left, driving on Robertson. Wong extended his hit streak to seven games with a double down the right field line to open up the Oregon State half of the fourth. Loyola Marymount opened the game with three runs in the first off Oregon State starter Mike Stutes, who went five innings for Oregon State, allowing eight hits and four runs to drop to 1-2 on the season. He walked one and struck out six. The Lions broke open the game in the seventh, posting six runs to add to the team’s 4-3 lead. Loyola Marymount finished off the game’s scoring with three runs in the ninth. Mike Kenney picked up the win for Loyola Marymount after throwing seven innings. He allowed five hits and three runs while striking out three and walking one. He improved to 3-0 this season. The game was held at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the campus of San Diego State. Oregon State continues their trip to San Diego with an 11 a.m. game Saturday against San Diego at Cunningham Stadium on the USD campus.
