EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon sophomore guard Taylor Lilley was named to the all-Pacific-10 third team it was announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen today. In a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches, Stanford senior Candice Wiggins became the first player to be named Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year three times in her career. Stanford’s Kayla Pedersen was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, while Arizona State’s Briann January was distinguished as the first-ever Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year. Tara VanDerveer of Stanford was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year. Fifteen student-athletes comprised the all-Pac-10 first, second and third teams. Lilley was the only player from the Ducks’ squad to earn the honor. Last year she was an all-Freshman Team honorable mention. During her sophomore campaign, Lilley is currently leading Oregon averaging 12.1 points per game. Oregon’s go-to player on offense, Lilley leads the Pac-10 averaging 2.34 three-pointers per game. This season, the Newhall, Calif., native, has knocked down a total of 68 shots from long distance, a mark that ranks fourth in Oregon single-season history. In just two short seasons, Lilley’s total of 107 three-pointers ranks eighth all-time. This year she has led Oregon in scoring on 13 different occasions, while reaching double figures 18 times, and exceeding the 20-point mark in six of those instances. Some her most memorable performances this year include a 24-point output during a 67-56 win over Tulsa, in which she knocked down a career-high six three-pointers. Lilley followed that up with 21 points at Oregon State in the Pac-10 opener. In the past, the Pac-10 has had 10 players named to the first team, but this year, the conference expanded the honorees to 15, creating the first, second and third teams. Stanford and California each had three players receive all-conference honors, while Arizona State and USC each had two representatives. Oregon leaves Eugene today and heads to San Jose, Calif., for the 2008 State Farm Pac-10 Tournament. The Ducks open the four-day event as the No. 7 seed, playing No. 10 Washington State at 6 p.m. on Friday. Source: goducks.com
