PORTLAND, Ore. - Skiers, snowboarders and riders can get a free all-day Fusion Pass lift ticket valid 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline ski area for simply donating four cans of nonperishable food to the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division. Simply bring your canned food to Sunshine Division trucks in the parking lot of either ski area this Friday, March 7, and Sunshine Division staff will collect the food and issue free lift tickets. "Ski for Sunshine is a critical food-collection event for us," said Officer Phil Kent, Portland Police Bureau liaison with Sunshine Division. "It replenishes our warehouse for a spring and summer of helping meet the ongoing needs of Portland's families and individuals in financial crisis and in need of emergency food relief—those who otherwise would have to choose between paying the utilities bill and buying adequate food for their families." Since 1988 Ski for Sunshine has collected over 60,000 pounds of food for Sunshine Division. Throughout the years that food has helped to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Portland-area families and individuals in need. For information about obtaining temporary food relief, or about volunteering with Sunshine Division, contact its office and warehouse at 503-823-2119. Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline Ski Area together offer a bountiful 5,000 vertical feet and over 2,250 skiable acres of terrain across 95 runs and 13 chairlifts. One or the other area, if not both, is open every day between opening day and Memorial Day, weather permitting. This translates to much more variety of terrain and options for area snowriders.
