SEATTLE - Freshman Erin Guzy (Beaverton, Ore.) went yard for the first time this season to boost the Beavers to a 5-3 win over No. 23 Washington on Sunday afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium.

Oregon State (22-16, 1-2 Pac-10) tallied eight total hits in its first Pac-10 win of the season, led by Guzy with two after earning a single in the fifth, and junior DeAnn Young (Camarillo, Calif.) with a pair of singles. Washington (22-10-1, 1-1 Pac-10) tallied nine.

Sophomore designated player Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) earned a pair of RBI on her first at bat, ripping one into right center after falling behind on the count 0-2, scoring Guzy and sophomore Katelyn Miller (Camarillo, Calif.) from first, both reaching on walks to put Oregon State up 2-0.

But Washington answered right back in the bottom of the inning in the form of Morgan Stuart’s leadoff home run over left field to narrow the margin to one with the Beavers still leading.

The Huskies took the lead after three full behind back-to-back RBI singles by Jace Williams and M. Stuart, gaining a one-run edge.

In the Beavers’ last chance at a win in the top of the seventh with the go-ahead run at the plate, Young advanced the tying run, sophomore Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.), to second on her single to right field bringing Guzy to the plate, who belted a shot over right center on the second pitch seen to score three runs and put the Beavers up 5-3.

Oregon State gave up one hit in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout by Dyer preserved the final score to give the Beavers their first Pac-10 win.

Dyer earned her 13th win of the season, improving her record to 13-11 after throwing 1.2 innings in the circle. Washington’s Aleah Macon was charged with the loss, putting her record at 11-5.

Oregon State will face Oregon next in a single game on Wednesday, Apr. 2, in Eugene, Ore., at 4:00 p.m.
