SALEM, Ore. - Seventh-year head coach Justin Sherwood announced the signing of Greater St. Helens All-League 1st team member and 6-foot-8 senior Erik Cronrath (Battleground, Wash.) from Battleground High School today, as the first official Corban men's basketball member of the Class of 2012. Cronrath, who played forward at Battleground High School, arrives in the Capitol City following a senior season in which he averaged 14.0 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, and 2.4 blocks per contest. "Erik is an outstanding young man and we are very excited he chose to be a Warrior," said Sherwood. "Erik has a very soft shot, can put the ball on the floor, and pass very well for a big guy." Cronrath led the Tigers to an overall record of 7-16, including a 2-8 mark in Greater St. Helens League play, last season. The 6-foot-8 senior forward finished second in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding, while leading the league in blocked shots. A member of the Greater St. Helens All-League 1st team, Cronrath also was named the team's Most Valuable Player, Most Inspirational Player, and Defensive Player of the Year following his final season in a Tiger uniform. Along with his team awards, Cronrath also tied the school record for most blocked shots in a single season with 50 this past year. Cronrath will be competing as part of the 2008 Les Schwab Roundball Shootout this Sunday, March 30th, at Prairie High School beginning at 6:15 p.m. Cronrath will be part of the nine-player white team that also features Class 4A Greater St. Helens League Player of the Year, Jeff Dorman of Prairie High School. Along with his basketball background, Cronrath was also a two-year all-state cross country runner for the Tigers. Cronrath will be joining ten returning players from last season's Warrior squad that finished at 10-20 overall and 5-15 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Corban is scheduled to tip-off its 2008-09 season on Friday, November 21st, when the Warriors host NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
