PITTSBURGH - Former Steelers defensive lineman Lloyd Voss died on Thursday at the age of 65.

Voss reportedly died of liver and kidney failure.

Voss was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the first round in 1964, the 13th overall pick.

He was traded to the Steelers in 1966 and played for the black and gold for six seasons, playing alongside Joe Greene during that time.

"When I was a rookie Lloyd was the left defensive end and I was the left tackle," said Greene, who started on the defensive line that year with Voss, Chuck Hinton and Ben McGee.

Greene, a current Steelers scout who spoke during a break from draft meetings on Thursday, last saw Voss a year ago at the Steelers offices.

"He was tough," said Greene. "I always felt when I was standing next to him that I should have been the end and he should have been the tackle because I was probably about 2 inches taller than him. He was a run-stopper. He was physical.

"Lloyd helped me out a lot. He was the guy who helped me run the stunts and I taught L.C. (Greenwood), and then we kind of got together. A lot of the stuff we learned from Lloyd."

Voss, who remained in the Pittsburgh area in Scott, is survived by three children.
