COLUMBUS, Ohio - Terrelle Pryor, rated as the nation’s most outstanding high school quarterback, signed a national letter-of-intent Wednesday to attend The Ohio State University. The dual-threat signalcaller from Jeannette (Pa.) High School led the 16-0 Jayhawks to the PIAA and WPIAL football championships. A 2,000 career point scorer in basketball, Pryor also helped the Jeannette basketball team to WPIAL and PIAA titles, a first for any team from western Pennsylvania. “This is an exciting day for the Buckeyes with Terrelle choosing Ohio State to be his football family,” Jim Tressel, Ohio State head coach, said. “We’re so proud of him, with his football and basketball success, and think he’s handled it tremendously well. Terrelle has a passion to be a great quarterback in every aspect. We think his future is tremendous. We couldn’t be happier.” Recognized as the high school player of the year by USA Today, Parade, EA Sports, Scout, Rivals, PrepStar, Superprep and PrepNation, Pryor was the MVP of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in December. Pryor totaled 4,238 career rushing yards and 4,340 career passing yards, a first in the state of Pennsylvania. As a senior, he gained 1,899 rushing and 1,889 passing yards, accounting for 58 touchdowns. A three-year all-state recognee, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review selected him as their player of the year as a junior and senior. The son of Craig Pryor and Toni Pryor, he is an honor roll student at Jeannette. The Buckeyes begin spring practice March 27. The football spring game is April 19 at Ohio Stadium.
