RENO, Nevada - The 22nd-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series, 10-1, to Nevada Friday afternoon in front of 903 at Peccole Park. Oregon State (6-6 overall) managed three hits in the game, with Jason Ogata singling up the middle in the sixth and Daniel Robertson reaching on an infield hit in the ninth. Ryan Ortiz drove in OSU’s only run of the game with a double to left center in the ninth that scored Robertson from second. Mike Stutes took the loss for the Beavers, dropping to 1-3 this season. He went 6 1/3 innings in his fourth start of the season, allowing six runs and six hits while striking out five and walking three. Nevada opened the game’s scoring with two runs in the first when Shaun Kort doubled to left. Jason Rodriguez then accounted for the game’s next three runs, driving in his first on a solo shot to left in the third. He added to Nevada’s total in the fifth with his second home run of the game, a two-run round-tripper to center. The Wolfpack added to its 5-0 lead with four runs in the seventh off Stutes and relievers Kraig Sitton and Taylor Starr. Nevada (7-7) starter Rod Scurry threw 118 pitches in seven innings of work to improve to 2-2 this season. He allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out two before being removed in the eighth in favor of Mario Rivera. Oregon State continues its three-game series with Nevada on Saturday in a 1 p.m. scheduled started at Peccole Park.
