KEIZER - The wins just keep coming for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, or maybe they heard it was my wife`s 34th birthday yesterday, and they wanted to give her a great birthday present! Either way…. Volcanoes starting pitcher Adam Cowart pitched six strong innings, and Volcanoes hitters erupted for three home runs as the Volcanoes beat visiting Boise 6-1 at Volcanoes Stadium before a crowd of 2,646. The 6`2" Cowart, with his a side-arm pitching style, kept Hawks batters guessing and frustrated all night long. He left the game after six innings and recorded five strikeouts, no runs, and two hits. Cowart is now 2-0, with no earned runs, no walks, two hits, and eight strikeouts. Volcanoes first baseman Will Thompson got the Volcanoes homeruns started with a solo blast in the first inning over the right field fence for a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Volcanoes outfielder Bobby Felmy hit a laser shot over the over the right field fence. Then shortstop Emmanuel Burriss blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to top off the Volcanoes scoring for the night. Volcanoes relief pitcher Ben Snyder came in to relieve Cowart at the start of the seventh inning and the Hawks were able to find a little life. Hawks outfielder Deryck Lewis had the Hawks only run with a scorching shot to center field resulting in a triple. Alfred Joseph drove him in with a frozen rope to left field for a standup double. Snyder wrapped up the seventh and eighth innings with one earned run, two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. Juan Trinidad followed up with a one, two, three ninth to close the game. The Volcanoes remain tied for first place in the Northwest League Western Division with the Everett AuqaSox with identical 8-1 records. At Wednesday nights game, the famous Spitball Gang will appear, season ticket holders will receive a team lapel pin, and the Sponsor Reception Day BBQ will be held. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM.
