Cavaliers Upend Corban Men, 76-60

With the loss, Corban drops to 6-10 overall, 1-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

SALEM, Ore. - All nine players that saw action in tonight's game scored at least one point led by junior Wade Douglas' 13 points and six rebounds, but Corban's men's basketball team fell to conference rival Concordia, 76-60, Tuesday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

For the second game in a row, Douglas led the Warriors in scoring while senior Hannes Gehring and three other Corban players added nine and eight points respectively.

Concordia, who bumped its winning streak against Corban in the Capitol City to three games, jumped out to a quick 12-point advantage (20-8) after the opening seven-plus minutes.

Using a 26-17 run over a span of 8:56, Corban got within three points (37-34) via a Douglas jumper in the paint. Unfortunately, Concordia scored the next four points to go up 41-34.

Corban junior Kyle Masten ended the first half scoring with a three-pointer with 25 seconds left on the clock and helped Corban go into the locker room trailing by a mere four points (41-37).

In the second half, Concordia built its lead back to double digits when Matt Ochs connected on a fast break lay-up with 10:02 remaining to give the Cavaliers an insurmountable 60-48 lead.

Over the next nine-plus minutes, the visiting Cavaliers pushed their lead to the largest difference of the game (76-59) with 43 ticks left on the clock. Freshman Bryan Martin capped the game's scoring with a free throw that amounted for the final difference of 16 points (76-60).

Junior Garrett Kauffman, Masten, and freshman Clay Martin all scored eight points while junior Jason Braun added seven points off the bench. Clay Martin, Gehring, and sophomore Paul Martin aided Douglas' rebounding efforts with 4, 3, and 3 boards respectively.

For Concordia, Ryan Johnson led a quartet of Cavaliers in double figures with a game-high 18 points while Cody Aker, Desmond Meray, and Ochs added 14, 13, and 12 points respectively.

Aker and Johnson each recorded double-doubles, as the duo combined to pull down 31 rebounds with Aker grabbing a game-high 16 boards, including four offensive rebounds.

As a team, Corban shot 25-for-64 (39.1%) from the field including 4-for-24 (16.7%) from beyond the arc and 6-for-11 (54.5%) from the free throw line.

On the other hand, Concordia turned in a 32-for-66 (48.5%) performance from the field that included 6-for-20 (30.0%) from three-point land and 6-for-11 (54.5%) from the charity stripe.

With the loss, Corban drops to 6-10 overall, 1-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Concordia improves to 6-9 overall, 2-4 in CCC action.

The Warriors will hit the hardwood again on Friday, January 11th, when Corban travels north to Portland to take on the Thunderbirds of Cascade beginning at 7:30 p.m.
