Eugene, Ore. - The Northwest Christian College women’s basketball team played a controlled and systematic game on Friday night at the Morse Event Center, and earned a 59-51 victory over visiting Corban College. The win extended the Beacons’ winning streak to three games. Junior forward McKenzie Gambee led the team in scoring with 12 first-half points and finished with a career-high 20 at night’s end. The Beacons (11-10, 5-6 Cascade Collegiate Conference) were also fueled by the play of guard Amy Croll who scored 13 points and dished out five assists, while fellow guard Lori Renner added 12 points and was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Both teams played an even first-half of play, with the score knotted 26-26 at the break. NCC opened up the second-half on a 16-2 run, limiting the Warriors (7-15, 3-9 CCC) to just two free throws during that stretch. Reserve guard Jannesa Miller kept the Warriors close scoring 15 of the team’s 25 second half points. Miller scored 15 straight points over an eight minute period, before a Katie Stewart free throw ended Miller’s scoring streak. Corban received scoring assistance from Tami Lambrecht who scored 13 points and senior forward Jessica Steigleman (Churchill HS) finished with 11 points. Center Emily Goette collected a game-high 16 rebounds and contributed four points on the night. The Beacons return to the court Saturday night, when the Concordia Cavaliers visit the Morse Event Center for a 5:30 PM start.
