ASHLAND, Ore. - The Northwest Christian College men’s basketball has won back-to-back games for the first time since mid-November after disposing of rival Corban College on Friday night, 76-70. After losing track of an eight-point half-time lead and losing most of a nine-point lead later on, NCC remained steady with the ball to hang on for the win. Northwest Christian (8-13, 5-6 CCC) had a 37-29 advantage at the intermission, but Corban came out scoring eight points in a minute and a half, getting seven from Clay Martin to knot the score at 37 apiece. Andrew Williams answered with a layup on the other end and the Beacons never trailed again. The Warriors threatened the lead late in the game, when a pair of free-throws from Ben Sisler brought Corban to within two points, 66-64 with 3:45 to play. Erik Quick-Warner hit a three-pointer with 2:20 which seemed to kill the rally, and the Beacons went on to ice the game at the free-throw line in the final minute. On the night, NCC shot 14-for-16 at the charity stripe. By contrast, the Warriors shot just 58% in missing 3-of-6 down the stretch. The Beacons were led by Josh Jarrett, recording his sixth double-double of the season with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Williams also had a double-double scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds, along with five assists and two blocks. Andrew Miller led the block-party with three while scoring nine points and seven rebounds. The Beacons out-rebounded Corban 48-38 on the night. Corban (7-15, 2-10 CCC) was led by Martin and Hannes Gehring, scoring 15 points apiece. Kyle Masten chipped in ten points and the Warriors leading scorer, Wade Douglas, shot just 3-for-12 from the field for seven points. He added three blocks. Ben Sisler came off the bench for five steals for Corban in the loss. NCC will be back in action on Saturday night when they play host to Concordia University. Tip-off, as always, is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
