SALEM, Ore. - Four different Warriors scored in double figures led by junior Wade Douglas' 12 points and six rebounds, but Corban's men's basketball team could not hold off the 'Yotes of The College of Idaho, 62-56, Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Along with Douglas, junior Kyle Masten, freshman Clay Martin, and junior Jason Braun recorded 11, 11, and 10 points respectively. The quartet combined to score 44 of the Warriors' 53 points or 83.0% of Corban's scoring on the night. Thanks to a slow start shooting-wise, Corban fell behind 11-1 in the game's opening 5:04. Using its never-say-die attitude, Corban battled back and took its first lead of the game (17-16) thanks to a 16-5 run over a span of 4:44, as a steal and fast break dunk by Braun caused COI's head coach Mark Owen to burn a 30-second timeout. Following the break in action, The College of Idaho ended the half on a 14-7 run that gave the visiting 'Yotes a six-point cushion at halftime (30-24). In the second half, The College of Idaho quickly pushed its lead to double digits (37-24) as the 'Yotes scored the first seven points of the final stanza. Corban battled back and got within five points (50-45) thanks to a wide-open lay-up by Martin off an assist from Masten with 3:59 showing on the game clock. Over the next two-plus minutes, The College of Idaho used a mini 5-0 run to pull ahead by double digits (55-45) thanks to a three-pointer by Bryan Champ and back-to-back free throws by Tucker Long. The Warriors could not get any closer than six points (59-53) following back-to-back free throws by Braun, as the 'Yotes made three-out-of-four free throws in the game's final 36 seconds for the six-point victory (62-56). Along with quartet's scoring, Douglas pulled down a team-high six rebounds to go along with Braun's five, Masten's four, and sophomore Ben Potloff's four boards respectively. Potloff tied a career-high with nine points, while freshman Bryan Martin recorded a new career-high with eight assists. For The College of Idaho, Josh Owen tallied a game-high 13 points on 3-for-10 shooting from the field to go along with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Kurt Nielson and Long added 11 and 10 points respectively while J.R. Maggard pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. As a team, Corban shot 18-for-52 (34.6%) from the field including 7-for-28 (25.0%) from beyond the arc and 13-for-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, The College of Idaho turned in a 20-for-46 (43.5%) performance from the field that included a 6-for-18 (33.3%) showing from three-point land and a 16-for-22 (72.7%) showing from the charity stripe. With the loss, Corban falls to 7-13 overall, 2-8 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho improves to 9-11 overall, 6-4 in CCC action. The Warriors will hit the hardwood again on Tuesday, January 22nd, when Corban travels north to the Rose City to take on conference rival Concordia beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside Cavalier Gymnasium.
