Saints Erase Wolves Lead, win 82-63 Saturday

Berkey's three-pointer with 9:23 to go in the first half gave WOU a 25-14 lead, but a 12-2 SMU run helped give the hosts a 35-32 margin at the break.

LACEY, Wash. - Saint Martin's went on a 16-0 run to start the second half, breaking up a close game on their way to a 82-63 women's basketball win over Western Oregon at the SMU Pavillion on Saturday night.

Sade Smith led the host Saints with 19 points as Saint Martin's improved to 9-3 overall and to 2-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Western Oregon fell to 4-8 on the year and to 0-3 in conference play.

Katie Torland led the Wolves with 16 points and she also had seven rebounds. Alison Crumb added 14 points, and Leada Berkey chipped in 13 points and eight boards. The Wolves hit 8 of 28 three-pointers in the game, but converted only 13 of 21 free throws and they turned the ball over 29 times.

The Saints then went on a 16-0 run to begin the second half to put the game away. WOU would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way, and SMU's 21-point margin at the end of the game was their largest.

The Wolves will hit the road next week for games at Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday and Alaska Anchorage on Saturday.
