Jan-13-2008 00:52Late Burst Boosts Cavaliers to 73-62 Win at CascadeSalem-News.com SPORTSOniah led the Cavs with 15 points after 5-of-6 performances from the field and from the free throw line. Razavi finished with 14 points, all of which were obtained in the second half
PORTLAND, Ore. - After seeing Concordia lose a double-digit lead once already in the second period, Maryam Razavi and Joyce Oniah powered the Cavs with a late charge for a 73-62 win over Cascade College on Saturday.
With the result, Concordia jumped to a 10-8 overall record and 6-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Cascade dropped to 10-8 and 3-5 in the CCC.
In the first half, a pair of Oniah free throws pushed the Cavs to a 26-11 lead with eight minutes remaining before settling for a 10-point lead heading into the locker room. A 20-4 run directed by Robin Swain to start the second half gave Cascade a six-point lead with 12 minutes remaining, but Concordia would close again via an Oniah jumper with six minutes to go to reclaim the Cavalier lead at 56-55. After a Razavi jumper a minute later, Cascade's Swain stroked her seventh three pointer of the game to tie the match at 58, but the Cavaliers would respond with a 14-1 run which included a streak of 10 straight points to secure the win.
Swain finished with a game-high 32 points based on 10-of-18 shooting from the field and 7-of-11 from three-point land. Te Awhina Aranui chipped in 13 points but made her presence felt with 22 rebounds for the double-double. Cascade outrebounded the Cavs 42-29 but shot 36.8 percent from the floor compared to 45.6 percent for their opponents. Concordia shot 81.8 percent from the free throw line after recording 18 points on 22 attempts.
Oniah led the Cavs with 15 points after 5-of-6 performances from the field and from the free throw line. Razavi finished with 14 points, all of which were obtained in the second half.
"We made some big free throws down the stretch," Concordia head coach Aaron Christian said. "This team is finding ways to win. Razavi stepped up and Oniah was a lot to handle in the second half."
Concordia returns to action on January 18th when it hosts The College of Idaho at 5:30 PM inside the Cavalier Gymnasium. Cascade will travel to Oregon Tech on Friday to face the Owls at 5:30 PM.
