Feb-05-2007 13:05Oregon's Tamika Nurse Named Women's Basketball Pac-10 Player of The WeekSalem-News.com SPORTSThis is the first career Player of the Week award for Nurse and the 32nd all-time for Oregon.
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon sophomore guard Tamika Nurse has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 29th-Feb. 4th, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday. The Ducks scored their first weekend series sweep in Pac-10 play last week, taking out UCLA and USC in Eugene. Nurse was the steadying influence in both games, as she fought her way to the foul line with impressive regularity and then knocked down 24-of-26 shots while toeing the free throw stripe. In Thursday's 76-60 win against the Bruins, Nurse recorded a career-high 22 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line. She also provided five assists and two rebounds. Nurse continued to attack on Saturday vs. the Trojans, parading to the line for 16 free throw attempts and converting 14 (.875 percent). Nurse totaled 16 points, pulled down a career-high six rebounds, and added four more assists to the Ducks' 73-63 win over USC. The win snapped USC's three-game winning streak and was the third-straight for the Ducks themselves as they look to climb back to .500 in Conference play. Oregon is currently in eighth place with a 5-7 record and will travel to the Arizona schools this week. ALSO NOMINATED: Jill Noe, ASU; Devanei Hampton, CAL; Casey Nash, OSU; Candice Wiggins, STAN; Noelle Quinn, UCLA; Jamie Hagiya, USC; Cameo Hicks, WASH.
