Women's Tennis: Linfield 9, George Fox 0

Defending NWC Champ Wildcats Sweep Bruins.

NEWBERG, Ore. - Showing why they are the seven-time defending Northwest Conference champions, the Linfield College Wildcats swept every match in a 9-0 defeat of the George Fox University Bruins in women’s tennis action Friday afternoon here at the GFU campus courts.

The Wildcats took the doubles matches while losing only one game. Linfield’s Sallie Katter and Sophie Larson downed George Fox’s Corinne Borrelli and Mollee Robinson 8-1 at No. 1, Sarah Click and Abby Olbrich swept Courtney Banks and Betsy Ann Penman 8-0 at No. 2, and Sarah Watanabe and Kiana Nip blanked Lauren Miller and Liliya Abildayev 8-0 at No. 3.

The Bruins put up a more spirited fight in several of the singles matches but could not pull any of them out. Katter dropped Borrelli 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1; Larson downed Banks 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2; Nip knocked off Robinson 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3; Click swept Penman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4; Watanabe nudged Abildayev 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5; and Katie Patterson beat Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

Georg e Fox (1-4, NWC 1-4) next visits Lewis & Clark College while Linfield (5-2, NWC 5-0) hosts Pacific University, both matches Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
