MEDFORD, Ore.— - The Concordia softball team improved to 7-0 on the year by defeating Concordia-Irvine 5-1 at the Southern Oregon Invitational held at US Cellular Park on Friday. In the morning game, Danielle Pulfrey pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three hits and a single unearned run. The junior hurler struck out nine batters and issued three walks. The Cavs scored a single run in the first from an RBI double by Nicole Illias and would add three in the second by way of an inside-the-park home run by Denise Benedict. CU would add a run in the top of the fourth while Irvine generated its lone score in the bottom of the fifth. Pulfrey stuck out the side in order in the sixth and worked around a leadoff baserunner with three straight outs to finish off the Eagles. Cavs Complete Comeback against Puget Sound MEDFORD, Ore.—Down 6-1 after two innings, Concordia struck for four runs in the third and three more in the fourth en route to a 9-6 win over Puget Sound in softball action at the Southern Oregon Tournament held on Friday. Concordia improved to 8-0 in the year with the win while UPS dropped to 2-4 overall. Concordia will face Azusa Pacific at 10 a.m. and Pacific University at noon on Saturday to close out competition at the SOU Tournament. Early errors harmed the Cavs in the opening stanzas as five of the six UPS runs were unearned against the CU pitching staff. Danielle Pulfrey collected her second win of the day by throwing four-plus innings if shutout ball. Posting her second two-hit game of the day, lead-off hitter Denise Benedict continued to be the catalyst for the Cavs. CU tailed 13 hits overall against seven for the Loggers.
