CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Cathedral City, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team earned 12 hits, led by senior Cambria Miranda’s (Camarillo, Calif.) 3-for-3 performance to win its final game of the Palm Springs Classic, 8-3, over Florida Atlantic Sunday afternoon.

Oregon State (8-8) chalked up three doubles and a home run, and had three other players with multi-hit games, led by sophomore Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.), who added a couple of runs. Junior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) and sophomore Alana Ford (Chula Vista, Calif.) were the other two, with Ford adding two RBI.

The Beavers scored on their first round at the plate, capitalizing on back-to-back Florida Atlantic errors off of stolen base attempts. Chisholm earned a hit on her first at bat before stealing second and advancing to third on an error by shortstop Blair Bodenmiller. With Miranda reaching on a walk and stealing second, it prompted a throwing error by catcher Kerri Croney to score Chisholm, giving Oregon State the early 1-0 lead.

The Owls tied things up in the top of the second but the Beavers continued to swing the bats in the bottom of the inning, getting a leadoff hit by freshman Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.), with junior Kellie Roberts (Stayton, Ore.) pinch running, and freshman Erin Guzy (Beaverton, Ore.) lobbed one over the middle soon after. P. Lowe laid down a bunt to advance both runners before Ford drove both runners home with her double to right center.

Freshman McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) advanced Ford to third on a sacrifice bunt before Chisholm singled through the left side to score Ford. Chisholm picked up a pair of bases off of a passed ball before Miranda’s RBI single scored Chisholm, putting Oregon State up 5-1 after two.

Florida Atlantic put another run on the board in the top of the third on a solo shot out of left field, but was held scoreless in the fourth. Miranda led off the bottom of the of the fourth putting herself in scoring position on a stand up double to left center on a 2-2 count. Making it four innings straight, Miranda scored on a double by Ewing to open the gap up to five runs with the Beavers leading 7-2 after four.

Miranda hit her fifth home run of the season just barely fair down the left field line to score another run for Oregon State and widen the gap back up to five after six innings, eventually becoming the final score.

Florida Atlantic (5-9) scored two of its three runs off of solo home runs over the left field fence. The team’s first run came from an RBI double by Lauren Crandall.
