BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Oregon State sophomore right-handed closer Kevin Rhoderick has been named to the Stopper of the Year Watch List by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, it was announced Wednesday.

Rhoderick became just the third Oregon State player to record 10 or more saves in a single-season when he finished with 12 last year as a freshman.

He posted an 0-1 record and 2.39 earned run average in 20 appearances last season.

Rhoderick struck out 32 in 26 1/3 innings and limited opponents to just 11 hits and a .131 batting average.

Rhoderick, who was also on the Stopper of the Year Watch List at one point last season, finished the year as a NCBWA Freshman All-American First-Teamer.

He also earned College Baseball Freshman All-America honors and was a Baseball America Freshman All-America Second Team selection.

A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., he was named to the Lousiville Slugger preseason All-America Third-Team in December.

The 2009 season officially opens Friday when the Beavers start a three-game series against Tennessee in Knoxville. The game can be heard live on the Beaver Sports Network, Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com) and Yahoo! Sports.
