CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women’s basketball team raised $5,500 for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund through its “Pink Zone” game last Saturday against Washington State at legendary Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers defeated the Cougars, 52-42, to earn their 15th win of the season. In the process, nearly 1,700 fans passed through the doors at Gill Coliseum, with most wearing pink in honor of Yow, the former North Carolina State women’s basketball head coach who passed away Jan. 24 from breast cancer.

Those fans had an opportunity to purchase an official “Pink Zone” t-shirt from Beaver Authentics, with the proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

It was the second straight year the Beavers participated in the event, and more than 1,000 schools nationwide held a “Pink Zone” game this year or are scheduled to.

Oregon State, in fact, will participate in its third this year when visiting UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 24. The Beavers also played in a “Pink Zone” game on Feb. 7 at Arizona State.

Oregon State makes its final Pacific-10 Conference regular season road trip of the year this week. The Beavers play at Stanford Thursday night in a game that starts at 7 p.m. PT and can be heard live on KLOO 1340-AM in the Corvallis area and KKAD 1550-AM in Portland.

It will also be available on the Internet at Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com) and Yahoo! Sports. Todd Mansfield will call all the action.

The second game of the trip, Saturday night against California, will air live nationally on FSN. The game will start at 6:00 p.m. from California’s Haas Pavilion.

Oregon State will conclude its trip by visiting UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in California.
