Miranda’s Home Run Lifts No. 18 Beavers over UC Riverside

Oregon State tied things up in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of hits and a pair of errors by the Highlanders (1-3) before Miranda’s homer secured the win for the Beavers.

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Senior Cambria Miranda of Camarillo, California hit her second home run of the season to lift No. 18 Oregon State over UC Riverside, 4-3, in the team’s second game of day two of the Cathedral City Kick Off on Saturday afternoon.

Miranda’s solo shot out of the park came in the bottom of the sixth off a 2-1 count as she led off for Oregon State (2-2) at the plate. She needs one more home run to tie for second place on the career home runs list with 35.

Sophomore Stefanie Draper (Parkdale, Ore.) tallied her second win of the season after coming in at the top of the sixth with the score tied at three runs each.

The Beavers fell behind early after the Highlanders scored on three hits and an error in the first inning with both runs coming off the error. But Oregon State battled back to a one-run deficit with freshman McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) scoring after reaching on a walk, advancing on a throwing error and reaching third on a wild pitch before junior Stefanie Ewing’s (Scottsdale, Ariz.) drove her home.

UC Riverside put another run on the board in the top of the third on a Marissa Alvidrez home run to left field to put the team up 3-1.

Prior to the win over UC Riverside, the Beavers battled but fell to No. 2 Texas A&M, 9-1.

Junior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) hit her first home run of the season, third career, off of Aggies’ pitcher, Amanda Scarborough, to lead off the fifth inning, going 2-for-3 to lead the Beavers.

But despite the team’s five hits, including McKenna Lowe’s double in the bottom of the fifth, Oregon State wasn’t able to stop Texas A&M, as the Aggies scored nine runs on 14 hits with only one error to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Oregon State is wrapping up competition at the Cathedral City Kick Off today. Kickoff was Sunday morning at 9:30 AM against No. 6 Tennessee.
