EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon baseball coach George Horton completed the early signing period by adding four additional players to bring the total number of recruits to 21 for UO’s first recruiting class in 27 years. “We couldn’t be more pleased with this group of players,” Horton said. “I feel like we set the bar pretty high, but we definitely exceeded our expectations.” The incoming class, which already includes two of the top five junior college pitchers as rated by Perfect Game USA, in Ben Whitmore and Justin LaTempa, will be completed during the normal signing period in April. The Ducks, who begin a full regular season and Pac-10 schedule in 2009, have not fielded a team since disbanding the program in 1981. 2007 University of Oregon Baseball Additional Signed Recruits: Brett Davis, 1B, L/L, 6-0, 175, Clackamas, Ore. (Nova) Scouting Report: Threw a no-hitter in his first high school start ... Won the 2006 Power Showcase home run contest (overall homers) with 33. Very polished starter with power curveball. (San Dieguito) Scouting Report: Has a lot of upside ... Very good arm with a feel for a quality changeup and breaking ball ... Projectable lefthander who has a chance to develop a power arm in the future ... Expected to help down the line. Erik Stavert, RHP, R/R, 6-3, 180, Livermore, Calif. (Chabot College) Scouting Report: Very successful JC pitcher and a proven winner ... 9-1 with a 2.36 ERA in 76.1 IP at Chabot ... Has a quick arm, throws a heavy sinker in the low 90s ...
