Northwest U. Falls to Dordt College

Northwest was led by junior Brittany Bowsher’s 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Lydia Llewellyn contributed 10 points for the Eagles.

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Dordt College (Iowa) rallied from a slow first half start to pull out a 63-54 non-conference victory over the Northwest University women this afternoon.

Northwest U. had broken out to an early 11-0 lead in the first half but the Defenders from Sioux Center, Iowa, battled back to trail by two, 21-19 with 2:32 remaining in the half.

Northwest held off the Dordt College rally and took a 27-23 lead at the half. Dordt came out shooting in the second half and scored four straight points to tie the game at 27 just one minute into the half.

A 3-pointer by Amber Soodsma (Hudsonville, MI) put the Defenders in the lead, 30-27, for good with 18:20 remaining. Northwest would get within six, 56-50, with 4:19 left on Brittany Bowsher’s jumper but Dordt would hold on for the win going 4 for 7 from the freethrow line the final 1:01 of the game.

Dordt (4-7) was led by Kelsie DeNooy (jr., Denver, CO) who scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. McKinzie Schmidt (So., Gordon, NE) added another 13 points and 8 boards, and sophomore Kate Du Mez (Brookfield, WI) added another 11 points for the Defenders from the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Kara Karlsgodt (sr., Atwater, MN) controlled the backboards with 11 rebounds to tie for the game high.

Northwest U. (2-10, 1-3 CCC) was led by junior Brittany Bowsher’s (Issaquah, WA) 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Lydia Llewellyn (sr., Seattle, WA) contributed 10 points for the Eagles. Dani Drivstuen (Jr., Monroe, WA) tied for the game high in rebounds with 11 for the game.
