GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Senior Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) rebounded for a sub-par performance with a game-high tying 17 points on 6-for-18 shooting, but Corban's women's basketball team fell to Colorado Christian University, 62-56, on the final day of the Holiday Inn Christmas Bash.
After scoring a season-low six points yesterday, the 5-foot-10 forward returned to her original scoring act as Steigleman tied for the game-high in points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Corban jumped out to a nine-point lead (15-6) with 13:21 remaining in the opening half following a jumper by junior Kailey Bostwick (Medford, Ore.). Unfortunately for the Warriors, Colorado Christian used a 7-0 run to pull within a single point (15-14) with 12:09 on the clock. Over the next five-plus minutes, Corban ballooned its lead back out to nine points (27-18) via a free throw from freshman Rachel Harter (Grass Valley, Calif.) with 6:37 left in the opening half. The host Cougars used a 12-4 run to pull back within a point (31-30) and then grabbed their second lead of the first half at 32-31 following back-to-back free throws from Sara Davis with three minutes left. Colorado Christian took a three-point lead (36-33) into the locker room and never looked back. Unfortunately, Corban could not get an closer as the clock became an enemy and near perfect free throw shooting by the Cougars spelled defeat for the Warriors.
Along with Steigleman, Bostwick added 12 points and a game-high six assists. Sophomore Emily Goette (Aumsville, Ore.) and freshman Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash.) poured in nine points each, while Miller and junior Margie Lou Correll (Ephrata, Wash.) pulled down 7 and 6 rebounds respectively.
Colorado Christian was led by Davis' game-high tying 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field, while Abby Rosenthal added 12 points and a game-high 19 rebounds including 11 offensive boards. Davis also added 13 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, while Ainsley Barratt and Talmai Aguirre scored nine points each.
