CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men’s basketball team returns to action this weekend as the Beavers play their final non-conference game of the season as they host Montana State at legendary Gill Coliseum on Sunday, December 30th, at 7:00 PM. The game will be televised regionally by FSN Northwest. The contest against the Bobcats will mark the first game in eight days for Oregon State as the Beavers are coming off a 67-61 loss at the hands of LSU last week. Roeland Schaftenaar led the Beavers in a losing effort, recording 14 points, all in the second half, and nine rebounds against the Tigers. Seth Tarver continues his consistent play for Oregon State as the sophomore has scored in double figures in every game this season and leads the team with 15.2 points per game. Marcel Jones is the other Oregon State player in double figures as the senior is averaging 13.5 points per contest for the Beavers. Against LSU, Jones scored six points to become the 34th player in school history to surpass 1,000 points for a career. He enters the game against Montana State with 1,003 career points, nine points shy of surpassing Swede Halbrook (1,111) for 33rd on the all-time list. Montana State, a member of the Big Sky Conference, enters the week with a record of 6-5 on the season after dropping a hard-fought, 66-62, decision at Arizona State before defeating Great Falls at home last week. Carlos Taylor leads three Montana State players in double-figures as he leads the team with 16.5 points per game. Divaldo Mbunga ranks second on the team with 11.9 points per game while leading the team with 6.6 boards per game as Casey Durham is third on the team, scoring 10.5 points per game for the Bobcats. In their last contest against Great Falls, Mecklen Davis led the Bobcats with a season-high 18 points and Casey Durham added 14 points and three assists. MSU shot 51% on the night. For the season, Montana State is shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from behind the arc while holding opponents to 44.3 percent from the floor and 33.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Oregon State defeated Montana State, 72-63, last season as Marcel Jones scored 24 points to lead the Beavers to a road victory.
