PORTLAND, Ore. - Former Yakima, Wash. (Eisenhower High School) and Spokane Falls Community College standout Charles Cummings has signed to compete for Concordia University-Portland, Cavalier head coach Randy Dalzell announced this week.

Cummings had a stellar high school career that included four all-state performances in track and cross country as he finished second in the Washington 4A state cross country meet his senior year and third in both the mile and two-mile races at the Washington 4A state track championships for Eisenhower High School of Yakima. His high school bests were 4:12 in the mile and 9:12 in the two-mile.

At Spokane Falls Community College, he has been a three-time All-American in cross country and track and field, finishing fourth- and fifth-place finishes in the NWACC cross country championships the last two years as well as finishing third in the steeplechase at the NWACC meet for track and field. His 8,000-meter cross country personal record is 25:17 and his performances at Spokane Falls have helped lead his teams to consecutive cross country championships and last year’s NWACC men’s track title.

Cummings will have two years of cross country, three years of indoor track and two years of outdoor track remaining.

“Charles is a great addition in so many ways. He has a great running background, has been a team leader and a top level competitor at both the high school and college levels and he has a great work ethic that will lead to even better performances as he continues his college career here at Concordia University,” Dalzell said. “Charles is another key piece to putting together a championship men’s cross country group for next fall as well as adding great depth in the distance events for the track program.”
