WOU Men's Basketball Western Oregon 79, Sonoma State 62‏

The Western Oregon men's basketball team will continue play in the DeBani Holiday Classic, Saturday, Dec. 20th, as it faces host Humboldt State at 7:00 PM.

ARCATA, Calif. - The Western Oregon University men's basketball team outscored Sonoma State 48-31 in the second half as it earned a 79-62 victory Friday, Dec. 19, in the first day of the DeBani Holiday Classic.

The win moved the Wolves record to 4-2 as the Seawolves dropped its fourth straight to fall to 3-5.

The game was tied 31-31 at halftime, but after Sonoma State scored the first three points of the second half, Western Oregon went on a 14-3 run to take control of game. In the second half, the Wolves shot 69.6 percent from the field as it made 16 of its 23 shots from the floor including 6-of-9 three-point attempts.

"The guys played very well together and followed the game plan," said head coach Craig Stanger. "We were able to shoot well in the second half to earn the win against a regional opponent."

Sam Kelly led five WOU student-athletes in double-figure scoring with 17 points as he went 6-of-9 from the field. Travis Kuhns had a team-best six rebounds to go along 15 points and 6-of-10 shooting. Mike McLaughlin and Blair Wheadon scored 10 and 11 points, respectively, as four of the five starters scored in double-figures. Matt Schmidt came off the bench to score 13 points for the Wolves on 5-of-8 shooting.

"It was a good team effort from top to bottom and this game was promising sign of things to come," continued Stanger.
