HONOLULU - Ashley Allen reached the 20-point plateau for the third straight game and Brittney Davis and Tiffany Ducker both reached double-digits as the Oregon State women’s basketball team defeated Hawaii, 70-57, Monday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. With the win, the Beavers improved to 2-1 at the Island Imaging Paradise Classic as OSU heads back to Corvallis, Ore. Allen, who scored 24 points against Tennessee Tech Friday and 34 against Western Carolina Saturday, was named to the all-tournament team after finishing with 78 points over the three games, an average of 26.0 per. On Monday night, she scored 20 on 7-of-16 shooting to pace the Beavers, who improved to 6-4 this season. Davis finished with double-digits for the sixth straight game, meanwhile, shooting 3-of-8 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line to finish with 15 points against the Rainbow Wahine (4-5 overall). Ducker, lastly, scored 12 and grabbed five rebounds in the win. Overall, Oregon State out-rebounded Hawaii, 29-23, and posted eight steals to the Rainbow Wahine’s six. Oregon State came out of the gates quickly in the second half, making three straight three-pointers, including the first two by Allen. The Beavers continued on to a 15-6 run through the first 6:30 to put OSU’s lead at 42-32, their largest of the game up to that point. The Beavers extended the lead to 11 twice, the final time coming just minutes later at 10:54, 47-36, when Allen made another three-pointer. Hawaii pulled to within six, 56-50, at the 3:13 mark, but two free throws and a layup less than a minute later by Davis pushed the lead back up to 10, 60-50. Oregon State built up its biggest advantage of the game with less than a minute to play when Julie Futch made the first of two free-throws for a 67-52 lead. Neither team was particularly strong in the first half, with the Rainbow Wahine taking a 26-25 lead into the half after the team’s traded points for most of the half. Hawaii shot 45.8 percent compared to OSU’s 35.7. The Beavers out-rebounded Hawaii, 16-13. Ducker led the Beavers with eight first-half points to go along with a team-leading four rebounds. Allen, who came into the game as the Pac-10’s leading scorer with 19.9 points per game, scored seven in the first half. Oregon State returns to the court Thursday for the team’s final non-conference game of the season. The Beavers host Texas Southern at 7:00 PM at legendary Gill Coliseum.
