ELLENSBURG, Wash. - No. 20 nationally ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii opened the 2007-08 season in strong fashion at the expense of Western Oregon on Friday night at the Wildcat Classic, 107-77. The Seasiders led from nearly start to finish to tip-off the season at the Central Washington University tournament. Western Oregon dropped to 2-2 with the loss. The Wolves will play at 5 p.m. on Saturday against Ohio Valley, while BYU-H will play host CWU. BYU-H led by as many as 24 points in the first half and put up twice as many shots as the Wolves. The Seasiders hit 20 of 38 shots in the first 20 minutes, while Western had only 18 attempts (10-18). WOU turned the ball over 14 times before the break, and trailed 54-33. Western Oregon would get as close as 13 points in the second half (72-59), but Brigham Young-Hawaii would pull away again. The Division II team from the Pacific West Conference finished with six players in double figures, led by Lucas Alves' 26 points and eight rebounds. Jermaine Odjegba added 21. Sam Kelly led the Wolves with 24 points and Brad Krichevsky had 23, hitting six of 12 three-point attempts. But the Wolves had 24 turnovers in the game, while the victors had just nine.
