Dec-01-2007 05:49Iowa State Knocks Off Oregon State in OTSalem-News.com SPORTSSeth Tarver added 13 points in a losing effort as the junior has scored in double figures in every game for the Beavers this season.
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Marcel Jones recorded a career-high 19 rebounds, a single-game high for a Pac-10 Conference player this season, and poured in 17 points; however, it was not enough for the Beavers as Iowa State claimed a 71-64, overtime win over Oregon State in action on Friday night. Craig Brackins had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Iowa State while Rahshon Clark added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Cyclones (3-3), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Roeland Schaftenaar added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Beavers as Jones’ 19 rebounds were the most by an Oregon State player since Sam Whitehead grabbed 21 boards against Hawaii on Dec. 3, 1971. Seth Tarver added 13 points in a losing effort as the junior has scored in double figures in every game for the Beavers this season. After trailing at half and throughout the second half the Beavers fought back as Oregon State's Josh Tarver made two free throws with six seconds left to send the game to overtime; but, the momentum didn't carry into the extra period. Iowa State broke a 60-60 tie with nine straight points, capped by two free throws apiece from Brackins and Clark. Brackins scored five points in the overtime. The Beavers had the early lead Friday, hitting four 3-pointers on their way to a 14-6 advantage. The Cyclones managed to take the lead heading into halftime; however, as Iowa State held a 31-30 edge at the break. The Cyclones then built an eight-point cushin early in the second half; but, the Beavers crawled back into it, tying the score at 47 on a Seth Tarver jumper with 7:33 left. Oregon State will return to action on Friday, Dec. 7, as the Beavers travel to Davis, Calif., to take on UC Davis at 7:00 p.m Story by: The Associated Press Courtesy: OSU Athletics
