CORVALLIS, Ore. - Tom Black. Aaron Magnuson. Levi Levasa. Are these names that will one day be associated with the likes of Mike Hass, Alexis Serna and Slade Norris? Black, Magnuson and Kell are among 10 freshman walk-ons who are wrapping up the third of three weeks of the BEST (Bridge Encouragement Successful Transition) program at Oregon State. These 10 student-athletes have arrived on campus early to get their feet wet in the college environment before they get started on the other reason they’re at OSU. The “other” reason? August 10 marks the first day of fall football practice. Black (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Magnuson (Albany, Ore./West Albany HS) and Kell (Hilo, Hawai’i/Hilo HS) are joined by Tyler Bills (Mission Viejo, Calif/Mission Viejo HS), Garett Hall (Olympia, Wash./Olympia HS), Travis Horton (Tigard, Ore./Tigard HS), Levi Levasa (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS), Dylan Parsons (Olympia, Wash./Olympia HS), Mitch Singler (Medford, Ore./South Medford HS) and Reggie Williams (Rialto, Calif./Rialto HS). Bills is a long snapper with two years experience at Mission Viejo. He earned first team all-South Coast Conference as a senior ... Black is a defensive end prospect from Canada. His father, Dave, played professionally in Winnipeg for OSU head coach Mike Riley. Hall was a three-year starting receiver at Olympia High and twice earned all-Narrows League honors. Horton is a defensive end from Tigard who earned first team all-Pacific Conference at defensive end and as an offensive tackle. Kell played quarterback at Hilo before earning all-Big Island Federation first team at defensive end. ... Levasa, a safety prospect from Tualatin, is the son of former Oregon State center Roger Levasa (1978-81). Levasa played as a dual purpose quarterback in high school. Magnuson is a massive offensive lineman from Albany. He helped West Albany HS to consecutive 5A state championships as a junior and senior. Parsons was a three-year starter at running back at Olympia earning first team all-Narrows League as a senior. Singler is a three-year starter at receiver at South Medford. He earned first team all-state as a senior after setting school records for receptions and receiving yards. His cousin, Kyle, plays basketball at Duke. Williams was a two-year starter at defensive end and earned all-Citrus Belt League honors as a senior. Oregon State returns to organized activities Aug. 10 when fall camp opens with the first practice of the season at Tommy Prothro Football Complex. The Beavers will then spend the next 27 days preparing for their season opener against Portland State, Sept. 5, at Reser Stadium.
