EUGENE - The Oregon wrestling team will face two of the most successful programs in Division I wrestling in addition to hosting six home dual meets as part of its 2006-07 wrestling schedule that was released Monday, according to head coach Chuck Kearney. Highlighting the schedule are back-to-back matches against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma on January 20th. Oklahoma State returns national champion Johnny Hendricks along with a team that struggled early in the 2005-06 season, but rebounded with a strong showing in the NCAA Tournament to take their 34th team national championship. Oklahoma, led by NWVCA Coach of the Year Jack Spates, finished the 2005-06 campaign with a third-place finish in the NCAA Tournament and returns three All-Americans. The Ducks open the season in Wyoming, first in a dual against the University of Wyoming (Nov. 9th) and then by taking part in the Wyoming Open (Nov. 11th), also held in Laramie, Wyoming. The team will then participate in the annual Best of the West tournament (Nov. 17th) in Medford., before travelling to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational. Oregon then continues on the road, opening the Pac-10 dual season against cross-state rival Oregon State in Corvallis (Dec. 7th). The travel continues around the end of the year, as the Ducks will travel to the Reno Tournament of Champions (Dec. 20) before facing Bakersfield (Jan. 2nd). The Ducks open the home slate on January 5th, as they host Cal Poly in a dual meet at McArthur Court. Oregon will remain in the state on the following weekend, facing Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 12th) at McArthur Court, before travelling the short distance to Redmond, Oregon for the Oregon Classic Open Tournament (Jan. 14th). The home slate also includes Boise State (Jan. 27t), Arizona State (Jan. 28th) and Oregon State (Feb. 9th).
