EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) went 2-for-4 in her first game at Howe Field, pacing all Oregon State hitters with four RBI, including a three-run shot over right center, to boost the Beavers to a 7-4 win over Oregon on Wednesday afternoon. Oregon State (23-16, 2-2 Pac-10) took the early one-game lead in the Dodge Civil War series behind nine hits, while Oregon (25-14, 0-3 Pac-10) rallied late in the seventh, earning four of the team’s eight hits. Sophomore Katelyn Miller (Camarillo, Calif.) started things off for the Beavers four-run third inning with a single to left field before scoring on the next at bat from sophomore Alana Ford’s (Chula Vista, Calif.) double to left field before advancing to third on the throw. Senior Cambria Miranda (Camarillo, Calif.) cleared the bases on her next at bat with her home run to right field, putting the Beavers up 3-0 with no outs. Earning her sixth double of the season, Roderfeld nailed a two-out hit to center field to score sophomore Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.), who was waiting at second to give Oregon State an early 4-0 lead. Junior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) recorded her second hit of the game in the fifth, a double to right center, followed by a single by Chisholm to the same spot before Roderfeld hit her two-out home run, giving Oregon State the 7-0 advantage. But the Ducks spoiled the shutout, scoring a single run in the bottom of the fifth with Ashley Kivett taking advantage of a walk and a pair of wild pitches before scoring on Sari-Jane Jenkins’ ground out to Miranda. Oregon threatened in the bottom of the seventh behind A. Kivett’s home run to right field followed by an RBI double by Neena Bryant to put the Ducks within three with the score sitting at 7-4. With runners on the corners and the tying run at the plate, sophomore Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) caught Joanna Gail looking for the final out of the game. Dyer earned the win for the Beavers, improving her record to 14-11, 2-2 Pac-10. Oregon’s Melissa Rice was charged with the loss, dropping her record to 11-6, 0-2 Pac-10. Oregon State hosts its home Pac-10 opener beginning with No. 8 Arizona on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before No. 1 Arizona State on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 and 12:00 p.m. Source: OSU Athletics
