Eastern Oregon Inks Four More Volleyball Players

The Mountie volleyball team will look to improve on a 4th place Cascade Conference finish last season.

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Followers of EOU Volleyball will have some nice new faces to meet next fall as Head Coach Kaki McLean has inked seven new volleyball players for 2008.

The most recent and final four members of the class were announced today.

Julie Butterfield and Noelle Carstens will both be transferring to EOU from Walla Walla Community College while freshman Allison Groom from Sunset High School and Western Oregon University transfer Jessica Baty round out this years recruiting class.

Butterfield is a 5-11 Middle Hitter who is originally from Joseph, Oregon. While at Joseph High Julie was recognized as a 1st Team All-League, 2nd Team All-District selection.

Before teaming up with Butterfield and Walla Walla Community College the 5-9 Carstens was prepping at Reardan High near Spokane, Washington. During her tenure at Readan High Noelle was an All-Conference and All-State performer.

Allison Groom is a 6-0 Middle Hitter from Beaverton, Oregon. At Sunset High School Allison was a 2nd Team All-Conference award winner.

Jessica Baty will be getting closer to her roots when she arrives in La Grande next fall. The 5-5 libero who was in the staring line up at Western Oregon last season hails from Pendleton. The former Buckaroo was a two-time 1st Team All-IMC player at PHS. Baty will join Ben Welch and the Mountaineer track and field program at the conclusion of the Volleyball season.

With the edition of this recruiting class the Mountie volleyball team will look to improve on a 4th place Cascade Conference finish that had them one spot out of post season play in 2007.
