Highland Games 101

The Highland Games are open to both men and women with divisions ranging from novice to master. Persons interested in taking part can pick up a copy of official rules and entry form at the Newport Recreation Center or download the full package from newportcelticfestival.com.  Advance entries must be postmarked by June 8, 2011, with day of games entries accepted as space allows.   A series of free Highland Games clinics are being offered by the Newport Rec Center.  Clinics are held at 6:00pm every Wednesday night before the event.  Interested parties may contact Liam Hughes at the Rec Center or call 541-574-5453 for more info.

 
The inaugural Newport Celtic Festival & Highland Games is being held June 10-11-12, 2011 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in the heart of Newport, Oregon.  A cultural celebration of the seven Celtic nations, the festival will feature authentic Celtic music, dance, food, drink, crafts, vendors, kids events, family histories and of course, the Highland Games.  For more information on this and other fun activities planned like our golf scramble, tug-o-war, haggis eating, bonnie knees, whisky tasting, sandcastle contest or kilted fun run on the beach, visit newportcelticfestival.com.  For the very latest updates, like us on facebook or follow us on twitter.
