Oregon State Assistant Football Coach Leaves for Nevada

Burton joined the Oregon State staff after spending the 2001 and 2002 seasons at Portland State University.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Nigel BurtonOregon State University head football coach Mike Riley has announced that cornerbacks coach Nigel Burton has left the program to accept the defensive coordinator position at the University of Nevada.

Burton spent the last five seasons as cornerbacks coach, helping the Beavers to four bowl victories. He was a part of a staff that has enabled Oregon State to finish ranked in the top two of the Pac-10 Conference for defense in three of the last five seasons.

Texas Tech's Bob Knight Gets 900th Career Victory

Martin Zeno scored 19 points and Trevor Cook added a career-high 14 for Texas Tech (10-6, 1-1).

(LUBBOCK, Texas) - bob knightTexas Tech beat No. 10 Texas A&M 68-53 on Wednesday night, giving Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight his 900th career victory.

After the game fans chanted Knight's name as he walked off the court to a thunderous ovation. "You folks being here, seats being full for a change, really made a difference tonight," Knight told the crowd before leaving the court.

The Aggies (15-2, 1-1 Big 12) looked frazzled and out of sync most of the game.

Former Bruin Cage Coach Sam Willard Passes Away in Arizona

A native of Williston, N.D., Willard was an All-State guard before going on to Northwest Nazarene College.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Sam Willard, who coached the George Fox University men’s basketball team to five post-season appearances in six seasons (1976-82), passed away on Friday, January 11th from complications during a surgery procedure in Phoenix, Ariz. He was 72.

Willard joined the George Fox staff as men’s basketball coach and athletic director in the summer of 1976 after seven years in the same duties at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash., replacing Lorin Miller.

Chiefs Name Chan Gailey as Offensive Coordinator

During his 14 previous seasons in the NFL, Gailey teams have made the playoffs 11 times, including his last eight seasons in the league.

(KANSAS CITY) - Chan GaileyKansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards announced on Wednesday that he has named Chan Gailey as the club’s offensive coordinator.

Gailey, who served as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys (’98-99), has previously served as an NFL offensive coordinator for Denver (’89-90), Pittsburgh (’96-97) and Miami (2000-01). The 34-year coaching veteran most recently served a six-year stint as the head coach at Georgia Tech, where he compiled a 44-33 record.

Cubs Sign Jon Lieber to One Year Deal

Lieber, 37, is 129-121 with two saves and a 4.28 ERA (1022 ER/2151.1 IP) in 375 major league appearances.

(CHICAGO) - Jon LieberThe Chicago Cubs and right-handed pitcher Jon Lieber have agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2008 campaign. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The most-recent Cub to win 20 games in a season, Lieber went 48-36 with a 4.03 ERA (371 ER/827.2 IP) in 121 starts for the Cubs from 1999-2002, including a 20-6 record with a 3.80 ERA (98 ER/232.1 IP) in 2001 en route to a spot on the National League All-Star team and a fourth-place finish in Cy Young voting.

Tigers Ink Nate Robertson to Three Year Deal

Acquired by the Tigers from the Florida Marlins on January 11, 2003, Robertson has posted a 42-54 record and 4.53 ERA in 134 starts with the Tigers.

(DETROIT) - Nate RobertsonThe Detroit Tigers today announced the club has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with lefthanded pitcher Nate Robertson, keeping him in a Tigers uniform through the 2010 season.

Robertson compiled a 9-13 record and 4.76 ERA (177.2IP/94ER) in 30 starts for the Tigers in 2007. He finished third on the club's staff with nine wins and 119 strikeouts last season.

Oregon Native Named Head Football Coach at Hawaii

McMackin replaces June Jones who left the school to become head coach at SMU.

(HONOLULU) - Greg McMackinGreg McMackin has been named the head coach of the University of Hawai'i football program, UH Manoa chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw announced during a Wednesday morning press conference.

McMackin becomes the program's 21st head coach and replaces June Jones, who guided the Warriors for nine years before announcing his resignation last week. McMackin began his coaching career as an offensive backfield coach at Arizona in 1968 and moved on to Aloha High School in Beaverton, Ore., where he was as an assistant coach and head coach for three seasons. He then moved on to Western Oregon State College for three seasons as defensive coordinator.

Sparano Takes Over as Dolphins Head Coach

Sparano got his start in the NFL as offensive quality control coach with the Cleveland Browns in 1999.

(DAVIE, Fla.) - Tony Sparano Tony Sparano, a veteran of nine seasons in the NFL and 24 years in the coaching profession overall, today was named the eighth head coach in Miami Dolphins history.

He comes to the Dolphins after spending the last five years with the Dallas Cowboys, who qualified for the playoff in three of those seasons, including a 13-3 record this year when they won the NFC East.

Cavaliers Hold on to Defeat Cascade 71-67

Ryan Johnson led the Cavs with 18 points while teammate Cody Aker grabbed a game high 12 rebounds. Ben Pawlek paced the Thunderbird attack with 20 points.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Concordia Cavaliers lineup for 2007/08Up by double digits for most of the game, Concordia University withstood a late charge to capture a 71-67 conference road win at Cascade College on Saturday. With the win, Concordia improved to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference while Cascade College dropped to 5-11 and 0-8 in the CCC.

After three ties and four lead changes in the first 10 minutes, Concordia mounted a 13-0 run for a 28-17 lead with six minutes remaining in the first before taking a 12-point lead into intermission.
