(OROVILLE, Calif. ) - A student has been taken into custody today at a California high school after holding students and staff hostage in a band room at gunpoint for more than an hour, authorities said. The Butte County Sheriff's Department says no one was injured at Las Plumas High School in Oroville, California, just north of Sacramento, in the standoff, which began about 9:00 AM PT, and ended just before 11:00 AM PT. A sheriff's department spokesman said the male student fired one shot into the air. All of the school district's six schools were on lockdown during the incident. Las Plumas High School is being evacuated to the Church of the Nazarene 2238 Monte Vista Ave., parents can pick up students there. the district is also allowing a non emergency student release for all other district schools. All other schools are no longer in lockdown. Students may be picked up by their parents or guardians.
