(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Police Homicide Detectives have confirmed the identity of the homicide victim from early Sunday morning as 19-year-old Andre Dupree Payton of North Portland. Payton died of a gunshot wound after the shooting early Sunday at Northwest 2nd Avenue and Couch Street. Detectives have interviewed more than a dozen witnesses so far in the investigation but still need to talk to more people. Officers responding to the original shooting scene estimate that there was 100-200 people on the street at the time. At this point in the investigation, Detectives can say that more than a dozen gunshots were fired and that some of those shots hit cars and buildings in the area. Detectives and Gang Investigators have determined that a number of various gang affiliates were in the area at the time of the shooting, including Payton. Detectives are working to determine the nature of the relationship, if any, between Payton and the suspect. There have been no arrests so far in this investigation and Homicide Detectives and Gang Investigators continue to work around the clock following up leads. Anyone with information about this homicide is encouraged to call Detective Jim McCausland at (503) 823-0449.
