(SALEM, Ore.) - Traffic northbound on I-5 is currently being detoured on to the shoulder of the highway. However, congestion is very heavy. Motorists should consider alternative routes. Expect delays.

A multi vehicle crash at around 12:40 p.m. just north of Mission Street (milepost 253) in Salem resulted in a fatality and other injuries. One southbound lane is also closed. UPDATE

ODOT/Valley, No. Coast: A multi vehicle crash at around 12:40 p.m. has closed I-5 northbound just north of Mission Street (milepost 253) in Salem. There is a possible fatality and other injuries. One lane on I-5 southbound is also closed. Northbound traffic on I-5 is being detoured at Kuebler , to Cordon Road and back on to I-5 at Chemawa. Motorists should consider alternative routes and expect long delays.
