(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congress has seen fit to honor pigs and popcorn, catfish and ice cream with national days of recognition. The FRC believes it is time for our nation’s first responders to be honored. A diverse panel of key policymakers, first responders, and national organizations will celebrate the inaugural “National First Responder Appreciation Day.” Participants will call on the House of Representations to pass H.Res.592, the “National First Responder Appreciation Day” resolution and join the Senate in providing Congressional recognition to our nation’s emergency personnel. The First Response Coalition (FRC) event will salute America’s first responders for their service and sacrifice and discuss how Congress can help returning veterans pursue a public safety career. To date, over 6,000 people have signed the FRC’s online petition calling for a “National First Responder Appreciation Day,” and numerous organizations- including American Red Cross, Points of Light Foundation, Salvation Army, United Way of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and numerous public safety organizations- have endorsed the campaign. News event speakers will include: Representative Steve Cohen (TN – 9th) Johnny Brewington, President – Int’l. Association of Black Professional Firefighters Joe Davis, Director of Public Affairs – Veterans of Foreign Wars Ronald Hampton, Executive Director – National Black Police Association Major Todd Hawks, National Secretary for Public Affairs – The Salvation Army Steven Jones, Executive Director – First Response Coalition TO PARTICIPATE: The event will take place in 2226 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C. at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 25, 2007.
