(INDEPENDENCE) - Residents of Independence and surround cities soon wont’ have to travel far to see a first run movie.

The city, in conjunction with Prestige Development, have begun construction on a new 18,000 square foot cinema located at the intersection of 3rd Street and D Street.

The new cinema, named Independence Cinema, will open this Spring with eight auditoriums and a total of 826 reclining luxury seats.

Movie goers will be greeted by life-size bronze statues of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe by Northwest sculpture Jim Demetero.

The cinema will serve Pepsi products, fresh popcorn, hot pretzels, hot dogs, candy, and other theater concessions.

Once in the theater, patrons will enjoy state-of-the-art sound and projection systems, including a digital projection system that will allow patrons play Xbox games on the larger than life screen.

The theater will also have the ability to host birthday parties, company meetings, or other private gatherings.

The cinema will also provide jobs for 30 high school students and senior citizens in the community.
