(SALEM) - Salem Police Detectives were near Commercial & Marion St NE on a unrelated investigation when they saw four male juveniles in violation of daytime curfew and disobeying a pedestrian crosswalk signal.

The Detectives contacted them and learned that two had warrants for probation violations, one was a runaway and one was currently on probation.

Salem Police Spokesman Bill Kohlmeyer says investigators learned that the juveniles had been out together earlier, between 3:00 and 5:00 AM on Wednesday, going through vehicles in parking lots in South Salem.

Known parking lots involved are the Fox Hollow Apartments at 4892 Liberty Road South, the Valley Brook Apartments at 4945 Liberty Road South and the Fox Hollow Apartments at 200 Boone Road SE.

Police say they have identified items taken fom cars that include an Ipod and holder, two car stereo face plates and a cell phone.

The boys told police that easy access was gained into some of the vehicles since they were left unlocked. With other locked vehicles, the juveniles were able to push the side window down enough to allow their arm inside to unlock the door.

The four who were arrested are now in the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center on various charges. Kohlmeyer says that as the investigation continues, more charges could be filed.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in checking their vehicles if they were parked in the areas described above.

If you discover that you were the victim of a theft from your vehicle, you are asked to contact Detective Miller at 503-588-6050 x7161. Case #06-29913
