(SALEM, Ore.) - The Chemeketa Northwest Viticulture Center is hosting a welcome reception for the new president of Chemeketa Community College, Dr. Cheryl Roberts. The reception is slated for Monday, September 17th, at the Viticulture Center located at 215 Doaks Ferry Road N.W., in Salem. Dr. Roberts has spent the past 24 years of her career in career development and organizational management helping professionals do better what they do best. She is the ninth president of Chemeketa Community College and succeeds Dr. Gretchen Schuette who served as president from June 2001–June 2006. Dr. Roberts earned her doctorate in educational leadership and organizational development from Seattle University; a master’s degree from Ohio State University in student personnel in higher education with an emphasis in counseling psychology; and a bachelors in psychology from Seattle University. She is the former vice president of instruction at South Seattle Community College, one of nineteen board colleges with the League for Innovation. She was vice president of instruction and student services at Lane Community College, one of twelve Vanguard Colleges focused on becoming more learning-centered in its practices and operations. She served as dean of health and human services at Seattle Central Community College, Time Magazine’s College of the Year in 2001. Dr. Roberts is credited by staff at Seattle’s Intiman Theater, recently honored with the Tony award for best regional theater in the nation, for her significant role in helping to achieve their vision of art integrated with community. She is also cited for her courage in leading year-long series of readings and conversations based in important American literature, such as Native Son and To Kill a Mockingbird, which deal with race relations and social justice.
