(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - It's not very often we have a Red Flag Warning issued for the west side of the Cascades.

The National Weather Service has issued this warning because of our high temperatures, low humidity and east wind conditions.

Under these conditions the possibility of wild fire is greatly increased also the possibility of any small fire becoming a large and destructive event.

Portland Fire & Rescue has paired brush units with their respective engine companies so that at any time both apparatus will be ready to respond.

This makes the response to the report of a wild land fire faster and with more resources than during normal weather conditions.

Residents are urged to be extremely careful with fire outdoors and even something as small as a cigarette disposed of improperly can cause a fire with disastrous consequences.

Open fires outdoors should be avoided until the Red Flag Warning is lifted.
